Jeffrey Lucero is the founder and owner of Thoughtful Psychiatry. He is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with well over a decade of experience providing mental health care. He has extensive experience treating patients with complex presentations including those with trauma, complex trauma, and personality disorders.

Jeffrey started Thoughtful Psychiatry due to his concern about current prescribing practices. Patients often complain that their psychiatrist would prescribe multiple medications before getting to know them. However, Thoughtful Psychiatry is patient centered and incorporates principles of psychotherapy into all visits. “How” we provide care is as important as “what” we prescribe. 

Jeffrey leads the practice’s PMHNP training program. He has trained over a dozen graduate PMHNP students and new graduates. As a prescriber he embodies the principles of thoughtful psychiatry. In his words, “while a precise diagnosis is good to have it is better when the patient is left feeling precisely understood.” He is a skilled psychopharmacologist that has dedicated the later part of his career to learning and incorporating psychotherapies into his practice of psychiatry. Jeffrey has completed a residency, four psychodynamic fellowships, and a 3 year advanced training program in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
